Scientists Warning — Update Stuart is continuing to ‘shelter in place’ at home in Hawaii. The imaging test which he was to undergo at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota will be done in Hawaii on Tuesday, April 14. The images taken will be assessed by his care team at the Mayo, and later in the week he will know whether or not there have been any changes in the tumors in his neck and abdomen. He will undergo other medical procedures in Hawaii at the end of the month. We wish Stuart all the best in his journey to recovery. Please note that we are sending our weekly newsletter out at a new time aiming to have it arrive in your inbox on Tuesday anytime from late morning into the afternoon. From Stuart There are parallels between the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918-1919 and the current Coronavirus of 2020, called COVID-19, that is presently ravaging populations around the world. The main lesson is that the pandemic spanned two subsequent winters. Either we will take that lesson seriously, or we may be savaged by mutations of that virus over the summer, which will re-emerge next winter. In times of financial downturn, the best investment is ‘Social Capital’. Start investing in social capital now folks! Unlike Real Estate which derives its value from scarcity, Social Estate derives its value from plenitude. Always remember, your neighbors are the ‘first responders’. SW Youtube Channel We invite you to view and share videos from the Scientists’ Warning YouTube channel: https://www.scientistswarning.tv The coronavirus pandemic continues to be at the forefront in everyone’s minds. Our recent videos focus on its economic impact as well as lessons learned from the Spanish Flu (1918 Influenza Pandemic). We thank Amy Goodman and Democracy Now! for introducing us again to Naomi Klein, author, social activist, filmmaker and influential critic of corporate globalization. In this recent video, Naomi talks about the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic, what some are calling ‘Coronavirus Capitalism’. NoamChomsky is one of the principal thought leaders of our time, right up there with Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking, but in the social sciences of human cognition, linguistics, and the political-economy of nations. He is a scholar and a humanist with an incredibly wide ranging point of view and the ultimate ‘systems thinker’ where everything is related to everything else. Here is an interview Noam did recently concerning the current Coronavirus Pandemic (COVID-19), and its resonance and reverberations with his recollections of the present and past. SW Social Media
